The story and myth behind the design of the buckle:..as the story goes, the Celts regarded the horse as a symbol of sovereignty. When depicted as a mare, the horse also symbolized the power of mother goddess. Known as Epona (in Gaul), Rhiannon (in Whales) or Macha (in Ireland) the goddess was often depicted with a basket and a key, representing nourishment and guardianship. This stunning buckle reflects a unique design symbolizing this horse myth.
